The program’s final year

Future Rivers is a National Science Foundation program funded through a five-year grant. Since the start, program leadership has been pursuing various paths for sustainable funding to allow the program to continue beyond the grant period, with an ultimate goal of creating a Center for Freshwater Science at the University of Washington. Despite the program’s overwhelming success, we have been unable to find a way forward. As such, this year’s incoming cohort will likely be our last. However, given the critical and central need for freshwater research and education, particularly regarding climate change and social justice issues, we remain hopeful. Please reach out with any creative ideas for funding or partnerships – institutional, state, federal, foundation, corporate – that you think may help carry this foundational work into the future.
